This month the Departments of Classics and Philosophy will be hosting Dr. Josiah Ober as their 2015/16 Harry Lyman Hooker Distinguished Visiting Professor.
Dr. Josiah Ober is the Constantine Mitsotakis Professor of Political Science and Classics at Stanford University. His work focuses on democracy, historical institutionalism, and political theory. He is one of the most influential ancient historians writing today, bringing the perspective of antiquity to bear on questions of modern political thought and practice.
The public lecture, ‘Democracy before Liberalism’, will take place on Thursday, March 17th, 1:30-3:30 PM, in the Great Hall of the University Club.
The lecture will be followed at 3:30 PM by a panel discussion in the Great Hall of the University Club, featuring four respondents:
